What are your thoughts about aircraft paint jobs that are so perfect that they look like models? Way, way better than new.

Well, it certainly is a museum piece. I suppose you could say it's "factory fresh" in its appearance. I imagine when you are restoring an aircraft you have a choice of making it pristine or as it might appear in service (did the Meteor ever see combat?). This certainly is a pristine example, and I wonder if some of the way it looks isn't down to some photographic manipulation. I've spent many hours looking at airplane photos, and some certainly "pop" more than others, often due to post processing.
I'm not sure if I actually answered your question, or if this is more the ramblings of a man who has already had a few beers tonight (I'm going with the latter). As both a historian and an airplane enthusiast, I think this a/c looks like it was lifted from an encyclopedia of WWII fighters. Since this is a historical airframe, I don't have a problem with that. Does it look like it did back in 1943? Probably not. But as a piece of flying history, a soaring museum piece, it looks flawless.

I can't argue with that. The colors on the grey paint do seem to be extra crisp though. It's a beauty queen, so I don't have much problem with it. I do think I appreciate aircraft with a bit of patina though!

I saw one of the last 5 flying Meteors at an airshow this year. It was truly spectacular to see it in the air. I was standing a few metres away from it when they started the engines. Absolutely amazing to hear those old Derwents spin up. Centrifugal compressors sound so different to Axial flow turbines, they're like giant helicopter engines...
